In most cases by age 7 first permanent molars and anterior teeth are present in the mouth and the child is mature enough to handle any necessary treatment. In addition the growth of the jaws is not complete therefore treatments that correct jaw growth are still effective. Orthodontic treatment at this stage is called phase 1 treatment.
